I wash athletic shoes in the washing machine a lot. Just be careful that the strings are removed if possible, so that they don't get all caught up on the washer agitator. It also keeps them more open so that water can swish through them. Also, it would be better to wash with a couple of towels. That helps to clean them better and keeps the washer balanced. Since your shoes are black, it might be better to use a dark towel so that lint from a lighter towel won't fuzz them up. Most athletic shoes are synthetic fiber and can be washed in the washing machine. If they are brand new, I might be a little wary in doing it; however, if they are old and grungy -- what do you have to lose?
If they are made of material and not of leather it would be okay.
