How do you wash soft toys in the washing machine?

I have a lot of soft toys which I would like to donate to charity - they are about 20 years old so they need to be washed. How do I wash them safely in the washing machine and dry them so that they don't go all lumpy? (the washibng instructions have worn off the labels)How do you wash soft toys in the washing machine?
Unless the toys have the safety label, charity shops will be unable to sell them. So save your time and trouble, they will only bin them, keep them or give to family members or friends, but remember they only mean a lot to you! They may not like them, especially if they are old.. Toys wash well in a machine, around 40 deg. then tumble them and they will be fine. How do you wash soft toys in the washing machine?
I was myself in the washing machine
Wash by hand or use the GENTLE / DELICATE cycle on your washing machine...
i stick mine inside a pillow case to wash them , same when drying too
put it on your soft wash on your washing machine have a good look at the symbols on the machine
If you have a really gentle wash cycle, then that's probably the one that you want to use. Mine has, it fills up, turns twice, stands for twenty minutes and then turns twice back. Somehow the clothes come out clean. It's the eighth wonder. Or is it the ninth? I'm losing track of these wonders.
I wash them in a pillowcase tied in a knot or closed with a rubber band in warm water. Then dry them in the pillowcases. That kills all those pesky dustmites.
I wash mine on a cool wash at 30 and then just dry on washing line (when it isn't raining *LOL)
WASH THE TOYS BY PUTTING THEM IN A SEPERATE PILLOW CASE EACH ON A LOW TEMPERATURE.DONT TUMBLE DRY LEAVE TO DRY NATURALLY
hi, i normally wash my kids soft toys by hand (especially their fav's... always get something on them, jam, chocolate, juice!) then i put them into washing machine to spin them ... then lay a towel on the radiators and lay them onto it. The towel helps as sometimes they get stuck to the radiator if too hot or with some cuddly toys u end up with a leaky foot or hand where water starts to settle down and will save puddles on the floor!
DO NOT PUT THEM INTO THE WASHER. Get some 'carpet cleaning solution and a 'brush' ... pour some of the 'solution' into an equal amount of water and 'stir' until it gets 'really foamy' ... dip the brush into THE FOAM and 'scrub' each animal, then CLEAN the 'soap' from the brush, and dip it in water and 'rinse' ... do the 'rinse' three times. Your animals will not 'get lumpy' and will look 'new' ... It will take some time, but the KIDS who don't have any stuffed animals will LOVE YOU (even if they don't know you) for doing this! THANK YOU FOR DONATING YOUR STUFFED FRIENDS TO CHARITY ... and thank you for wanting to 'clean them' before you give them away.
They probably should be hand washed or put into those mesh bags and washed on gentle cycle. Air dry
o0pen the door and chuck it in the machine, easy
Put them into a pillow case, gently throw them into the washing machine and switch onto a delicate wash!
i think you should hand wash them, and too stop them going lumpy whilst drying, use a hair dryer too keep them soft...
Actually, if they are about 20 years old, you may want to check if they will still take them.

Some of the toys have come under 'new' regulations that may prohibit them from being sold on. Even from a charity shop.

But, aside from that you would normally only surface wash plush toys as as you say, the stuffing goes all lumpy.

What about surface washing and then spray with something like Detol Surface Cleaner maybe??
I wash my daughters the same way I wash clothes. Put them into the washer, then in the dryer.
Delicate cycle.
put them in your pillow cases and that helps when washing them.

I do that to mine and I have quite a few as I collect them.
